Let's Start With This One...

Good Morning Lovelies, 

Charles Dickens may have had a tipple in his hand when he made A Christmas Carol, but I don’t think he would have got as drunk as the members of this modern day retelling. Returning for another year, the Shit-Faced Showtime crew are providing audiences with a chance to see to A Pissedmas Carol, all over again. 

Setting up home in Leicester Square, the idea of the play is to tell the famous story. Yet, the big twist being that one of the cast members is in fact pissed. And they get to tell the others how the story is going to go. 

With the added addition of modern songs, sung in sometimes off key by the cast,  the play lasts for around an hour and 40 minutes. During which you are kept completely entertained. 

Especially when the drunken members stumbles their ideas out onto the cast or in fact just wonders off, having to be dragged back onto the stage by others in the production. 

Unlike anything seen before, this is a production that the whole family may not be able to see, but those that do will love. Swearing, swigging and singing. The perfect mixture for a Christmas delight. There is even shouting, which every family experiences at Christmas too! 

You can capture A Pissedmas Carol at the Leicester Square theatre until the 7th January 2023, so book tickets now lovely if it seems like something you would enjoy. You won’t be disappointed!

Hey Lovelies,

New Year’s Eve is nearly upon us! The day that marks the end of the year and the time to start anew. I must admit that I am really, truly ready to say goodbye to 2022. Not because it was a bad year, but because it has been one hell of a confusing, sad and mad one. Let's make 2023 more fun. Let's be free and embrace life. That is my goal.

However, before that, we must say goodbye to the last year in the right way. The quiet way. I know this may sound boring, but I love to spend NYE reflecting and embracing a less party-based evening. Many times, I spend it with my mum snuggled up watching TV. This year, I will be doing the same thing!

Spending the night in doesn’t make you boring. In fact, it can be a lot of fun and means you can relax a bit more. Here are a few reasons why staying in on New Year’s Eve is the best:

You Don’t Have to Get Dressed Up: Spending NYE in means that you can wear whatever you want. I have worn workout leggings, PJs, my everyday clothes and even put on my fancy frocks as well. My favourite thing is to wear my comfy nightwear because I feel cosiest in it. I couldn’t suggest slippers over heels more.

You Save Money: Most firework displays now charge people to attend them, which I think is quite sad, considering that so many of them used to be free. However, with the option to stay in, you can create your own display or simply watch the ones on the TV free of charge. You don’t have to pay to travel or for tickets into places either.

You Don’t Have To Deal With The Crowds: When it comes to going out, it often comes with the worry of beating the crowds or being amongst some people that you may not like or want to start the new year with. Beating the crowds and staying in with those you love will stop any worries in their tracks. I love a quiet night with my mum and a few other family members best. I can’t deal with the pushing and shoving in crowds aha!

Netflix and Chill: Instead of listening to songs you may not like or watching something that isn’t what you would normally, starting the new year with your choice of shows or films is epic. Pop on Netflix pick what you want and chill out. Starting 2022 in a peaceful and happy way will hopefully continue for the rest of it.

Pick and Mix Your Own Snacks and Drinks: Going to a party means that you don’t often get to choose the food or drinks on offer. This can lead to a big disappointment when you get to the buffet. With a quiet night in, you can order a takeaway, get in what you want from the shops or simply have a meal of your choice. No worries needed. The same can happen with the drink’s options. In our house, we often have a cup of tea and cheer the new year with our big mugs.

Sleep Is Always an Option: Once midnight has hit, you can stay up or go to bed as soon or as late as you want. No waiting around for a taxi or transport. Just a simple walk up the stairs and into the warmth and cosiness of your forever friend. Bed. The best person and place to start the new year with.

Going out or staying in, there is so much that can be done to mark the end of the year and the start of a new. However, I must admit that with all the choices above, I think I may forever be a stay at home new year’s lover.

After months of planning, getting ready and looking forward to the big day, it is finally here. I hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas time, doing all the traditional things you normally do. Spending time with loved ones having tons of fun!

This year, I am spending it with my family, who have grown over the past year, which I love. If 2021 has taught me anything it is that all you need is love. My family is the most amazing and supportive people and I want to make sure that they have an amazing day today. So, if you are around Hertford and see a bunch of crazy Christmas people, give them some love.

Good Morning Lovelies, 

For years, I have been the weirdo who finds great pleasure in seeing everyone running around on Christmas Eve. I love heading into the shops and seeing what people are trying to find and buy last minute. It makes me laugh at how mad we go at the time of year.

Christmas Eve is also the time in which I normally spend the whole afternoon in the kitchen with my mum baking sweet treats. However, this year we are going to have to face the brave outdoors for some last minute bits. Something that I hope doesn’t take up too much time. It is weird but no matter what you are the following things always seem to happen on Christmas Eve:

Time Runs Out: A plan will be put into place, but time will not be on your side to get everything done. Trying to find last-minute presents. Picking up and cooking the great big turkey that doesn’t fit in the oven. What on earth produced such a thing? Christmas Eve seems to have a time schedule of nothing.

Turkey Troubles: Speaking about the turkey not fitting in the oven, you will spend the day wondering how it is best to cook it? Will it feed everyone? Should you have spent so much on it? Will it cook on time? The beast of the table will become your worst enemy and when you place it in the oven, you will make it promise you to cook right, not raw, with all the juices in it. Wishbone better work.

Last-Minute Gift Shopping: Looking at the arrangement of presents you have brought so far; you will find that you have missed an all-important one. This will lead you to having to brave the high street to find it. When it is in your hands, you will make sure that no one even sets their sights on it until you have paid and bagged it. You will walk out of the shop in a triumph upon finding it or cursing those that found it before you.

Presents to Pack and Wrap: After heading out into the high street in bravery, you will find that you now have more presents than you thought. You will then worry about having enough wrapping paper, tape and labels to cover them all. Even more, stress ensured.

You’ll Worry About How Much Food and Drink You Have Brought: Christmas is a time for sharing. Yet, there will always be that worry about whether you have brought enough food and drinks. Does Tesco deliver on Christmas Eve? Is there ever such a thing as too much? How do you cook a turkey if you've never done it before? This will lead to a call to your mum on a Bridget Jones level. Just stir it Una!

TV Binging Begins: After a hectic day, you will finally sit down and start the traditional TV binging with a mince pie and mulled wine. All whilst telling yourself that you will start the wrapping as soon as possible. You will find that time has flown, as it does on Christmas Eve, the turkey hasn’t been cooked yet and you are ready to give up. But don’t! Like always it will all work out.

Christmas Eve doesn’t need to be stressful, but let’s be honest, it is kind of the fun of it. Especially when you promise not to do it again next year. You know you will aha!

Is it even Christmas if you don’t have a tub of chocolates/sweets in your house? My mum and I always try to get them when they are on offer. Something the shops started doing in September this year. We use them at Halloween, Christmas and even afterwards. Our family simply can’t get enough. 

However, there are definitely chosen ones in our house. We aren’t a picky chocolate/sweets family, but when it comes to festive tubs, we have a list of the ones we prefer. Therefore, I thought I would share our list of superior ones. Here is how we vote in our house, going from lowest to highest. Read to the bottom to find out our top picks…

8. Lindt Festive Tin: We can’t stand Lindt in our house! Sorry lovelies!

7. Bassett's Retro Sweets: Whilst we don’t hate these, they don’t seem to have the selection that I remember. Although, we do welcome them still.

6. Cadbury’s Roses: In our house, we sadly aren’t the biggest fan of Cadbury’s Roses. We enjoy a few of them, but when it comes to picking which ones we like best, there are others we would pick over these.

5. Swizzels Sweets Tub: We do love Swizzels sweets in our house and these probably would have been on top, but they can’t beat Haribo’s.

4. Haribo Sweets Tub: Are there any better sweets than Haribo ones? This tub is filled with the best ones and the big snack packets too. Great for taking them around with you on the go or using in advent calendars or stockings. 

3. Cadbury Heroes: Dairy Milk will always be a winning chocolate and having a whole tin of the best of the best makes this an instant Christmas classic in our house.

2. Quality Street: Who can resist a toffee penny or a chocolate toffee finger? I will steal these from the tub before anyone gets the chance to have them. Those and the fudges. I tell you now, if you try and get them off me, you will not win.

1. Celebrations: Twix, Maltesers, Bounty, Mars, the possibilities of goodness in this tub are endless and for that reason we always have to have them in our house. Although, there is a fight over who gets to have what out of them.

• 125g Unsalted Butter
• 100g Dark Muscovado Sugar
• 4 Tbsp Golden Syrup
• 325g Plain Flour
• 1 Tsp Bicarbonate Of Soda
• 2 Tsp Ground Ginger
• Writing Icing (Optional)
• 2 Tsp Ground Cinnamon (Optional)
• Mincemeat (Optional)

• Baking Trays
• Baking Paper
• Rolling Pin
• Mixing Bowl
• Mixing Spoon
• Saucepan
• Teaspoon
• Straw (Optional)

1. Preheat the oven to 170°C, gas mark 3 and line your baking trays with baking paper.
2. Melt the butter, sugar and syrup in your saucepan, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat, when all mixed and melted together.
3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, and cinnamon if you are using, before stirring in the melted ingredients making a stiff dough.
4. On a lightly floured surface, place the dough and roll out until it is 5mm thick. Using cookie cutters of your choice, make the shapes you desire and place them on the trays. If you are using mincemeat, place a teaspoon on each biscuit and cover with another shape. You will have fewer biscuits, but they will be filled with tasty treats.
5. Cook, in batches if needed, for nine to ten minutes or lightly brown.
6. Once ready, remove from the oven. They will still be soft, so if you are going to be making decorations with them, now is the perfect time make the holes for the ribbon.
7. When completely cool, decorate with the icing. Gift or store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Christmas has this idea or brings with it the idea that you have to constantly be on the move and in a rush. However, I don’t believe this. You don’t have to go to all the parties. You don’t have to buy or find a gift for everyone. You simply have to stay as happy and as healthy as you can be. Whether it is going to bed early, having a relaxing bath or dancing around the living room to Christmas songs. Doing what makes you you is more important than anything.

Writing this, I am currently witnessing my mum go a little mad, as she tries to sort out the house. Yet, I am reflecting on where I was this time last year. In a hospital, having my head glued back together, after a fall, caused by an incident on the bus, with a serious concussion leading to me having to rest in bed.

It wasn’t how I wanted to start Christmas 2021. It wasn’t how my family wanted to spend it either. It was something unexpected that we were faced with. It did however make us stop for a second and realise that the most important thing was just being together. Being happy with each other. Being a unit.

Whilst all of my family wasn’t there, we always celebrate together. Phone calls, Facetimes and messaging makes us connect in ways that food and presents don’t. For that reason, I am grateful for the people around me. Not the items or the decorations (although I love them!), just the people. My mum especially.

Therefore, I wanted to say that whilst it may seem like all of this matters at this time of year, just be reminded that people are the most special aspect. And resting, relaxing and renewing yourself in this stressful time is too. Don’t forget to look after you. It is the best present that you will end the year and start the new one with.

• 12 Mini Candy Canes (Out of their packets)
• Glue Gun
• Glue
• String

Method

1. Plug in your glue gun and place one glue stick into the gun.
2. Whilst leaving the glue to warm up and melt, unwrap all the mini candy canes and place to one side.
3. Take two candy canes and place them into the shape of a heart. Where the two canes meet, place a dot of glue onto them and leave to dry.
4. Keep doing this until you have six hearts glued together and dried.
5. Place five of the hearts next to each other. They should make the shape of a wreath.
6. Once you have placed them together, place a line of glue along each part where they meet. Leave to dry.
7. After they have set, turn over and place the last heart in the middle of the wreath. Leave this to dry.
8. Once all set, carefully pick the wreath up and tie the string (your chosen length) to the top of the wreath. Then add a dot of glue where the string and the canes meet.
9. After the whole wreath has dried, pick it up and remove any stringy bits of glue you have left on it.
10. The heart is now ready for you to hang wherever you desire.

Hey Lovelies, 

With a title like Plebs, many would think that this comedy has been made to offend. However, over the years, the series and now it’s feature length film, has done the opposite. It’s brought joy and a light-hearted nature to the British comedy scene that is still shining bright, even after all these years. 

Returning for a hugely successful feature film, the gang have ended and incredible show in an attempt pic manner. Having found his place later in the series, Jason (Jonathan Pointing), found a solid home alongside regulars Marcus (Tom Rosenthal) and the best of the three, Grumio (Ryan Sampson). Full of schemes, plans and food in relation to Grumio, the show manages to pull off everything you would expect and more in a beautiful manner. Something the film does too. Just with the hugely important roman empire to battle with as well.

With many guest stars, the show sees characters come and go. Yet, there is always a heart throughout. Whilst Jason learns to come to terms with many admirers, the crew face the Roman war, romances, sick and ultimately life in general. Mostly the bad sides of it.

Each character has a place within the show that works. Whilst Rosenthal and Sampson have always been there, they still make it feel like you are learning about their characters and falling for their charms just like the first time you met them. Especially in the case of Sampson, who is the standout performer throughout the show and its feature. No one compares to him and the work he does. Grumio is the best in terms of giving every element of comedy.

Nothing within the script seems too much for the stars of the show/film and those that guest feature. Everything you would expect and everything you don’t is shown. From sick, spit and even worse than that, the characters are thrown into every situation. It brings hope and joy that sitcoms like this haven’t gone anywhere and the creators should be proud.

Plebs has been a joy to watch from the very start and I hope it continues on in fans and new viewers lives forever. Nothing is too much and everything makes your heart swell with joy watching. If you have never seen it before, buy it and binge. Christmas is a moment for joy and Plebs is definitely delivering it just in time.

Monday is here and that means that the final week before Christmas has begun! To start the celebrations early, I thought I would bring the holidays home with a tasty Christmas cookie recipe that will delight all who walk through your door this weekend.

Filled with gorgeous spices and all things nice, these cookies are perfect to make Christmas decorations, as gifts or to keep in a decorated jar in the kitchen to enjoy whenever you wish. Iced or not, you will not be able to stop making them in the lead up to the big day.

You might even move that jar into the room when you start wrapping because, with a recipe this easy, you won’t be able to stop making them:

Tools

• Fork
• Teaspoon
• Knife
• Wooden Spoon
• Mixing Bowl
• Rolling Pin
• Food Wrap
• Cookie Cutters
• Baking Tray
• Baking Paper
• Cooling Rack
• Straw (Optional)
• String/Thread (Optional)

Ingredients

• 100g Plain Flour (Plus, More for Dusting the Service)
• 75g Butter
• 75g Caster Sugar
• 5ml Lemon Juice
• 1 Teaspoon Mixed Spice
• 1 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
• 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
• 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
• 1 Egg

Method

1. Grease and line the baking tray with baking paper. Set the oven to 180(C)/Gas 4/356(F).
2. In a large mixing bowl, place the butter in cubes into it. Add the flour and lemon juice. 
3. Rub together the mixture until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. 
4. Add in the sugar and stir until light and fluffy. 
5. Beat the egg with the fork and pour into the mixture. Using a spoon mix until all combines and then knead with your hands into a smooth firm ball of dough. 
6. Laying the clingfilm flat, place and wrap the dough in it, before placing it in the fridge to chill for 20 minutes. This will make it easier to roll out later. 
7. After chilling, dust your surface and roll out the dough until it is 3mm thick. Then use your chosen cookie cutters to cut out the shapes you wish. If you want to make them into decorations, use a straw to place a small hole at the top of your shape. String or your chosen thread can then be placed through it. 
8. Place on the tray and bake for eight to ten minutes or until golden brown. 
9. Once cooked, leave to cool for five minutes on the tray, before moving to cool completely on the rack. Decorate how you wish lovelies and tuck in!

I am going to attempt to make these as much as I can this week. I am even thinking of making some Christmas jumper shaped ones. What designs are you thinking? As always, don’t forget to share the finished items with me lovelies!

 

Good Morning Lovelies, 

Christmas day is coming up and this is the week that we start to prepare for the big day. With just me and my mum at the table this year, we have decided to make it as special as we can. That means making a few individual changes to our meals. My mum is fantastic when it comes to helping me have a Christmas dinner, as I really struggle with it, due to my illness. 

Therefore, we have come up with a dinner plan, which I wanted to share with you all. As always, everyone's dinners are different and I am not saying you have to have the same or be similar. You do you lovelies. It just helps me sometimes to write down what I am having. Especially when it is a tough meal. 

So, here is the dining plan for the big day…

Breakfast: Cereal with milk, fresh fruit, a Yakult and a bottle of water

Snack: A bottle of juice with a yogurt and fresh fruit

Lunch/Christmas Meal: A proper Christmas dinner including a stuffed Butternut squash, red cabbage, brussel sprouts, peas, bread sauce, gravy and bread sauce. 

Christmas Dessert: Fresh fruit or an ice lolly/cream

After Dinner Drink/Dinner: A hot chocolate

Of course, this could all change lovelies, but I hope that I can tackle my anorexia and enjoy a festive meal with my family. If you are like me and struggling at this time of year, I am always here for you and sending you lots of love. As mentioned above, just take the day easy and do what you can. Whether it be a bowl of Corn Flakes or a full on dinner, just do you and enjoy it.

Good Morning Lovelies, 

I know this post isn’t the most festive, but it is important to lots of us at this time of year. The more we can help each other the better. Below are just some of the things I have found to have helped me during this hard time…

Take Time For Yourself: It may seem like a simple one, but with everyone rushing around you, family coming and going and the planning of important events, it can get hard to look after yourself. Make sure to schedule one to one time with yourself and don’t worry about it. Just do what you have to do to feel better and I am sure you will. 

Go Outside: Facing people and the world can seem daunting at this time of year. Yet, going outside can help. I went for a walk on the morning of my dad’s funeral. I just had to get out of the house before anyone had even arrived. I think if I hadn’t my anorexia and anxiety would have consumed me. I was able to handle the day a lot better by taking a walk. 

Reach Out To Others: Sometimes the best remedy is speaking to others. These could be members of your family, a GP or a charity who can help you deal with your loss. For me, it is my mum who has been a superstar. As have other family members and close friends. Take their help as much as you can. It truly does help in the long run. 

Write Your Emotions Down: When I left hospital, I started writing a journal. Little did I know that the book might just save me. Writing down the positives from each day has helped me understand what I am feeling. How I am progressing. With this in mind, I have found it easier to talk to people and explain where I need help or what I need help with. 

Finally, Enjoy Christmas and the Holidays Still: While it may not seem like the right time to be celebrating, I am going to make sure that my family have an amazing Christmas. It may seem strange to say this, but I know my dad would have wanted us to. It was his favourite time of year and to mark the occasion, I have lit our house up hugely. All so that he can see it from wherever he is. Do what feels right for you. If you feel like celebrating and decorating, do it. If not, don’t worry about it. Christmas comes around every year. Looking after you has to come first.

Good Morning Lovelies, 

Today marks two years on from when we buried my dad. It is a day that I am never prepared for. I don't know how we have reached two years on, but here it is. I can’t get over the fact that we said our final goodbye to him on this day two years ago. I remember getting up earlier, walking to town, buying a bottle of whiskey (his favourite drink) and vowing that every year I would mark the day by getting the bottle out and leaving him to let a little bit evaporate. I don’t drink, so I will be toasting him with some juice. 

If you are like me, then I feel for you and will always be here for you to talk to. In the weird world we now live in, we have to be there for each other and so today, I wanted to make this post to highlight this. All day, every day, my emails, DMs and comments section is always available. Never be afraid to reach out to me. I will always get back to you. 

We must look after each other, not just at Christmas time, but throughout the year too.  I am always so thankful for you all and I am here for you at all times. I’m off right now to find that bottle, but if you need me, just reach out. I’ll be there!

• 400g (14oz) of White Chocolate
• One Packet of White chocolate buttons
• One Packet of Pretzel sticks
• One Packet of Mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Halved
• Sprinkles or Red and Green M&Ms/Smarties

• Baking Tray
• Baking Paper
• Mixing Spoon
• Microwavable Bowl
• Spatula
• Knife

1. Line one 20.5cm (8-inch) baking tray with baking paper and leave to one side.
2. In a microwavable bowl, melt the white chocolate in a heatproof bowl for 30 seconds intervals. Watch to make sure that the chocolate doesn’t burn.
3. While the chocolate is melting, prepare the decorations. Use white chocolate buttons to mark out the snowman’s body. Split pretzel sticks in half for the arms. Cut the Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in hearts to make their hats and use black and orange sprinkles for the eyes and nose.
4. Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, pour it onto the prepared tin. Use a spatula to flatten the chocolate on the tray and leave to stand for a few minutes until it begins to set.
5. Quickly add the decorations in the ways in which you want to make the snowmen.  
6. Around the snowman, scatter more sprinkles or the M&Ms/Smarties around them and leave to chill in the fridge for around two hours until set.
7. Once hardened, cut with a knife or break shards off with your hands. Then sit back and enjoy lovelies.

Books have become my big find again this past year. From romance to thrills, I have read all sorts this year, surprising myself with 10 books in one month in fact. However, for me, Christmas is the best time to pick up a Christmas read. Super cosy. Super happy and very sweet. There is nothing better. 

Here are a few of my favourites that I think you should all read at Christmas time. Old and new, you will love the happy feeling they leave you with…

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens - A classic that doesn’t need any description. Everyone should experience reading this at least once. 

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - Love Christmas With The Kranks? This book is what the film is based on. If you haven’t experienced either, then you need to make 2022 the year that you do. It is a personal favourite feature of mine and the book is just as good. 

The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox - If you love The Great British Bake Off, then this is the book for you. When an accident occurs, two twins switch places, in the hopes to save their lives. Romance stuns the pair, leaving you feeling like you are reading a Netflix film in the making.

 

A Special Cornish Christmas by Phillipa Ashley - Another cosy romance, this is a quick read that will have you booking a festive trip to Cornwall before you know it. 

Christmas At Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan - If you want a sweet Christmas themed story, then this is it. The cakes and bakes mentioned will have you filling your home with homemade goods automatically. 

The Arctic Curry Club by Dani Redd - Not a fully fledged Christmas book, but set in a festive type atmosphere. This is filled with girl power and the perfect read to fall into during the odd week between Christmas Day and New Years. 

These are only a few books that have helped me get in the festive spirit over the last couple of years. I am always looking for recommendations though, so please do let me know if you have any. As a huge Christmas fan, I am always wanting to add to my collection. Even in the middle of May.

Good Morning Lovelies, 

With Christmas just around the corner, there is no time better time to make the most perfect hot chocolate. Having grown up with an Italian dad, lots of the warm drinks in our house are made the Italian way. Perfection in a cup if I do say so. 

This has led me to want to share with you the most thick and luxurious hot chocolate I know of. Get the mugs out and ready with my simple hot chocolate recipe lovelies…

Ingredients

• 650ml (1pt) Milk
• 3 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
• 3 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar
• 50g (2oz) Chopped Dark Chocolate
• 3 Tbsp Cornflour
• 2 Tbsp Water
• Mini Marshmallows and Whipped Cream (Optional)

Tools

• Medium Saucepan
• Mixing Bowl
• Wooden Spoon 
• Tablespoon
• Metal Whisk
• Six Mugs

Method

1. Begin by measuring out the milk and pouring it into your saucepan, before adding in the cocoa, sugar and chocolate. 
2. Over a low heat, continuously stir until melted. Do not allow the ingredients to boil. Once all combined, remove from the heat. 
3. In your mixing bowl, add together the cornflour and two tablespoons of water. Once ready, pour the mixture into the pan, with the chocolate mixture and bring to the boil, whisking with a metal whisk. 
4. Allow the chocolate mixture to simmer for a few minutes, whisking until thickened. Once ready, divide between six cups. 
5. Top these beauties with whipped cream, mini marshmallows or even plain lovelies. The choice is all yours.
