When I was younger, I always wanted to be Drew Barrymore in Charlie's Angels. I still do in many ways. To me, she was the coolest one out of the bunch and had everything about her that I loved. After today, however, I also want to be Kristen Stewart in the new kick-ass version from Elizabeth Banks.

Months have passed and we have been teased a lot about the upcoming Charlie's Angels, but now it is finally time to join the secret sisterhood of agents with Stewart, Naomi Scott, Ella Balinska and director Banks. Watch the first official trailer below lovelies:

Summer to me is all about being out in the garden and enjoying the sunshine. It is also the perfect time to bring the sunshine in, with some gorgeous flowers and fruits around the home. A bowl full of summer ripeness and windowsills with flowers on them are perfect sunshine treats that brighten any mood.

After speaking to the brilliant team at Prestige Flowers, they kindly offered me a chance to brighten my home with their new summer Haute Florist collection that is simply beautiful. At around 8am on Friday morning – also my mum’s birthday – an exciting white box arrived on my doorstep with a bouquet that was in no other words blooming marvellous.


Made up of lilies, roses and more, the flowers are a stunning shade of pink and white, reminding me of a Drumstick lolly. Added green leaves and purple buds gave it an added bit of charm that I simply adored. Normally roses are not my thing, but I loved the colour of these and the smell of them was not too overpowering. Something that I think makes them a great bouquet in summer to get someone if they suffer from hay fever or other plant-based allergies.

Having been in hospital for the past few days, the bouquet really made my home sparkle. I love coming down and seeing them on display. They also made the cards my mum got really shine and I told her we could share the bunch as a joint celebration of me being discharged and her big day.


Whenever I have had flowers from Prestige Flowers before, I am always impressed with how long they have lasted. Normally by now, a bunch will have started to have wilted. Yet, these still look the same as they did when they arrived, except for maybe one or two buds. They have really popped with the sunshine we had over the weekend and the food that comes with them upon arrival.

Every season Prestige Flowers makes a special bunch. This summer selection is the Orion bouquet I believe, and I can’t recommend it enough. I love the smell, the flowers chosen in it and the way in which it looks in a room. There is something summery in every petal and I can’t wait to order myself some of the sunflowers to try them too.

Heading back to the 1950s, Felicity Jones takes on the role of one of the most powerful women in US history in On the Basis of Sex, out today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally. Playing, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Jones tells the story behind one of nine women who took on the 500 law students in her class at Harvard, with her talented mind and never-ending power.

Set in 1956, the film captures Ginsburg as she learns to adapt to the students around her, whilst seeking what her path in life is. One she discovers is that of challenging sexist laws across America. All before becoming the US Supreme Court Justice.

Having inspired and continuing to inspire a new generation, through powerful speeches, memes and online encapsulations, the world is ready to know how Ginsburg grew to become who she is, and this film delivers. If only the story had been made more of when it came to promotional content.

The script and story are not represented enough in the media for their hard work and determination. Incredible thought has been shown throughout to make sure that audiences learn how the US Supreme Court Justice got to where she was. Yet, it feels as though because there aren’t any big action scenes or over the top dramatics, the story has been left in the dark. A sad fact for a film about a fabulous woman in our history.

Jones captures the powerhouse in a determined and dominating manner that works throughout. Instead of focusing on the story, you often focus on the true depths that she has gone to to ensure that Ginsburg is given the on-screen portrayal she deserves. Justice is most definitely served when it comes to the acting in this case.

With director Mimi Leder using the film to cement her return to the big screen after a break, it would have been nicer if it would have raised more of an appeal. The story, script and acting are only at a strong and outstanding level in many cases and to have seen this celebrated more would have been perfect. Keeping everything focused on Ginsburg, it is going to be a feature that will inspire a generation. No judgements needed.

It isn’t often that we get to experience a film that makes such an impact but doesn’t make a lot of noise. Yet, Fighting With My Family, out today on DVD, Blu-Ray and digitally, does just that. Created by the legendary Stephen Merchant and Dwayne Johnson, the film tells the real story behind one of the biggest family’s in boxing.

Back when it was known as WWE, the Knight family in Norwich were learning all about the world of wrestling through Zak (Jack Lowden) and his sister Raya (Florence Pugh). Determined to reach the top, the family are faced with a tough choice when only one of them makes it. Soon, tensions rise and the love their have for the sport is challenged.

Wrestling is having a revival. With the likes of GLOW on Netflix and the possible return of Gladiators and WWF, people’s interest in the sport is rising. This makes the choice to turn Paige’s (really known as Saraya-Jade Bevis), the daughter of the Knight wrestlers’ story into a full-blown film a clever one from Merchant and Johnson.

Together they have made a loving script that reflects every family dynamic, which is built up by actors Nick Frost and Lena Headey, but with an addition aggression from a sporting world that doesn’t get much big-screen action. However, when done right, it is a world that brings everyone together in a joyful manner. Add in the action and high stakes of Dwayne Johnson and you soon get a film that mixes everything in one. Hollywood powerhouses and English home-grown comedy, grittiness and light-heartedness.

Lowden and Pugh are a fantastic brother and sister pairing, who truly bring a sense of sibling rivalry and companionship to the screen every step of the way. They show how challenges can be made, tested and then pieced back together in only a brother and sister way. You feel when watching them that they could be related and as a viewer it makes the film even more enjoyable. Together they show the growing talent in the UK that is coming up.

Ultimately Johnson and Merchant have created a comedy that will stand the test of time. More should have been done to promote the work of this film and the people within it, as the talent and the story is a delight. There is a pure joy to this British story and I only hope that more people watch it now upon its release.

I honestly don’t know what happened to me today! I went to Brighton for two days and honestly, my body has treated it like I went away to Australia. I did only get two hours sleep yesterday though, so I think sleeping until 12pm today was a little okay aha!
In the mix of it all, I have just discovered a little email in my inbox from Disney, featuring a very exciting trailer. With England being treated to some horrible cold weather, it is also very fitting, as Frozen 2 has produced a second teaser, which will make you let everything go this evening and break out the soundtrack.

Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera and director Dean DeBlois return for one final epic outing in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and it in no way disappoints. After creating a highly successful franchise, including a TV series and merchandise base, HTTYD: The Hidden World is one story that fans will remember for the rest of their lives.

With Hiccup (Baruchel), now chief of Berk, the world that was once learning to live and fight alongside the dragons, has become an island that thrives with them. Living side by side in peace, the haven is one that captures the true beauty of their two worlds. Until hunter Grimmel (F. Murray Abraham) threatens the peace, leading to Hiccup heading out to discover more about the world he now rules and how it came to be.

When it comes to finales, many animations don’t sometimes know how to quit a good thing. Shrek being a prime example. This isn’t the case however for HTTYD, as the once coming-of-age story, uses Hiccup’s and dragon Toothless’ partnership and growth in adulthood to spring a new step in the story. Their tales stand out and the fire hungry mood feeds in the audience’s attention.

Adulthood is the key theme here, with marriage, love and even revenge playing a big part on what these characters now seek. Not the guidance on how to be in the world that was what the story thrived on in the beginning. Enemies are now being made and worlds torn apart. All a sign of a change in the time.

As the audiences who saw the first film have grown, so have the stories and now they are able to deal with a lot more action than before. Something which to make an epic finale was probably needed. However, when it does come to those last few moments, the story does dip a little and the expectations or hopes of something Pixar/Disney like are not entirely achieved. But it doesn’t leave too much disappointment. It is a soaring end to a soaring series.

Way back when in the 1990s, a cult film was created that no one knew was going to be such a smash hit from just one simple line. Writer-director Richard Linklater's uttering of the line, “alright, alright, alright,” in Dazed and Confused, which has been re-released today, is as big now as the Spice Girls and even Matthew McConaughey isn’t bored of it.

Set around the last day of school in 1976, the film follows a group of freshman’s as they prepare to start their summer partying. Yet, they soon discover that going to the parties may be the only simple thing about the night, as they find that to be allowed into the mix, they must complete a few bizarre tasks conducted by the seniors. All of which are either stoned or looking to have their first sexual encounters.

Full to the brim with even more quotable moments, the film is Linklater at his finest, with his take on the worlds that American Graffiti and more built. Unlike American Pie, the film is even more outlandish and every moment of it makes you feel like you have got as high as the characters on screen.

Set within a day of the life of the kids, it shows how promising and how dreams were made by those within it. It is a beautiful capture of innocence and a gem of a comedy that will continue to entertain many audiences for years to come. It is simple “alright, alright, alright,” just as it is.

Starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, Instant Family is a charming story that you have probably missed but need to see! Having focused on their careers for most of their lives, Pete and Ellie decide to adopt three siblings. All of which with very different personalities.

With a moody teenage, anxious middle child and a toddler who is both equal parts crazy and adorable, their lives are changed completely. Learning to navigate the new world of parenthood, whilst also presenting comedy chops and engaging heartfelt moments, the film goes back in time, as director Sean Anders’ provides what feels like a classic feature from the late 80s, early 90s.

From first glance, you would assume that a lot of the story has been told many times before, yet it’s a fresh look at the parents looking to foster and help others is enticing and comedic. None of them knows what they are doing, but with the guidance of the fantastic Karen (Octavia Spencer) and strange Sharon (Tig Notaro), their training makes for a lot of fun as a viewer.

In a world full of action, the twosomes choice to take on the three children is lovable, and you can’t help but be overjoyed by many of the crazy moments that happen on screen. The whole feel is that of Mrs Doubtfire, Cheaper by the Dozen and Parenthood. Hearty family comedies that may not have been the best when they were first made, but we all love and cherish to this day now. Family favourites that are proving to stand the test of time.

It is safe to say as well that the story doesn’t stay straight to the point throughout either, which makes it even more of a delight. Twists and turns are added, and they bring a clever account into the mi from Anders’, who could have kept the whole thing safe. Within his work, he also proves that in the heart of everything, he also wants people to see the ups and downs of the foster system, which may not be how many people think it is. Providing Byrne and Whalberg with a way of showing that what could have been a predictable pairing, story and character base for them, is a lot different and a thriving opportunity for the two.

Although the ending may be predictable and not all of the film works, the story, cast and direction of Instant Family makes it a heart-warming view, which will remind you of the classics you grew up loving. Anders’ proves sometimes the best films are left untouched.

I will be honest and admit that I don’t know much about the work of war correspondent Marie Catherine Colvin. Having spent her whole life covering some of the biggest wars and devastations the world has ever seen, in 2012, she tragically lost her life whilst investigating a story with her team. Yet, her legacy lives on in Matthew Heineman’s film A Private War, starring Rosamund Pike, Jamie Dornan, Tom Hollander and Stanley Tucci.

Instead of going back to the start of Colvin’s career, the plot focuses in on the final 11 years of her life, as a Sunday Times foreign correspondent. Struggling with the turmoil of reporting in some of the most war-torn parts of the world, it captures the struggles with PTSD, the loss of an eye and the world Colvin builds for herself, as she continues to cover the places many fear to tread. Alongside her is photographer, Paul Conroy (Dornan) and her editor Sean Ryan (Hollander), who both seek for her to discover a new side to herself away from war.

For those who knew of the work of the reporter, the story will be a hardship to watch, as the breakdowns and the motivation consume Colvin to the most dangerous of depths. However, if like me, the script and story have been created in a way to bring to life someone who deserves to have their work celebrated. Colvin is an inspiration, even if she didn’t see it in herself, and A Private War allows for her work to be discovered by a new generation.

Pike is on top form in the role and it is probably her most stand out performance to date, when looking at her away from Gone Girl fame. It is completely different from anything we have seen her in and shows a true depth to how far she will go to get a character right. Her presence on screen is commanding and anyone who shares it with her is easily forgotten.

The film isn’t action-packed and even though it is a war thriller that isn’t the point of it. The point of the story flows from Colvin and what she wants you to know. It is the stories she told and not a high chase war thriller. Something cleverly constructed by Heineman. Although ultimately comes from the great performance by Pike, who makes every inch of the film the success that it is.

May we remember May 2019 as the month that gave us so much. A Rocketman, a trio of three amazing ladies and an amazing show, plus lovely weather and a few bank holidays. However, all good things come to an end and as we reach into June, AKA the month of Love Island, it is time to look back at some of the best things that made it so special.

Favourite TV Show: The Bold Type – I adore this show and I can’t wait until it gets to Wednesday evenings when I can sit down and binge on it. Kat, Sutton and Jane are the perfect trio who navigate modern life in a very modern way brilliantly, with lots of important messages about society today discussed and featured.


Favourite Film in May: Rocketman – On Sunday I am off to see the man himself, who has long been one of my musical heroes. I knew quite a bit about his life, but this film was a real eyeopener! The perfect mix of music, heartache and the legend was displayed on the big screen better than I expected.

Favourite Clothing Item: Barbie Top from Primark – Growing up Barbie was one of my heroes. She was a vet, friend, princess, cook and so many other roles that she never stopped showing me that you could be anything you wanted to be. So, when I saw that Primark was making a range featuring the star, I popped over to my nearest one to embrace the new tops on offer.


Favourite Beauty Item: Avon Coconut Oil Body Wash – Since I can remember, my mum has been an Avon representative. In her room, she has a box filled with goodies she buys to try and amongst them was this body wash, which she insisted I tried after loving it herself. It is super creamy and has a lovely smell to it that lasts all day. As well, my skin has stayed super smooth and I am definitely going to be getting more.

Favourite Experience: Waitress the Musical – I have been waiting a long time to go and see Waitress the Musical, after spotting a poster for it last year. Finally, me and my mum booked up to go and watch it and I adored it. The moment you walk in, you are treated to the gorgeous smells of freshly cooked pie, before being treated to a lovely show that makes you believe in everything. Plus, you can also buy a pie to take home if you want lovelies, although I chose the cookbook instead.


Favourite Life Moment: Learning I Am Strong – I have always suffered from wanting to make sure that people are okay with me. I can be tough, but I don’t like conflict and it leaves me feeling very anxious. After being messed around in my job, I decided to leave and am now in a battle to get paid for the work I did, which is another pain. Yet, it has shown me that I can fight for what is right and I am now about to hopefully launch myself into the freelance world. What this space!

Way back in the late 90s, early 00s, the world was alight with Jennifer Lopez romantic comedies. Many of which, we all love and praise still to this day. So, when Second Act marked her return to the genre, but with a breath of fresh air, there was a level of excitement to it.

With so many features trying to revise or refresh the genre, Second Act (Out today on DVD and digitally), turns back time to give us a classic feel on a predictable story that has a heart of gold within it. Not many films touch upon what we came to love, as audiences seek something different, yet Jenny from the block’s new feature is a classic that works for our Netflix generation.

Lopez plays Maya, a megastore assistant manager, who is let down by her peers, when it comes to a big promotion at the shop, due to her lack of education. Unable to see her so down, her godson takes her online profile and edits it, landing her a role at a big make up company in the city. During her time at the company, she is faced with having to solve the dilemma of making a completely organic skincare range.

Working against the CEOs daughter Zoe (Vanessa Hudgens), the pair appear to have a rivalry, to begin with, yet the film changes the outdated theme to give a 2019 story with a huge twist amongst it that sees them closer than ever.

The film is predictable a lot of the time, but in many ways, that is what makes it watchable. It feels like an old school feature that will wrap you up in a warm-up on a Sunday afternoon. You can guess most of the plot before it even begins and much of the script lacks substance, but it doesn’t make you want to turn it off.

Each member of the cast, especially the supporting members, feels valued and click together in a way that many features like this fail to do. Comedy is high on the list for them and they bring it. Whilst Milo Ventimiglia brings a small slice of supportive partner (due to lack of screen time, not because he is rude) well.

Taking a genre and a story we have sort of seen many times before and giving it a modern spin, Second Act does what it says. It gives an area of the industry we know all too well and gets it ready for its second act on screen. Sure, there are things wrong with it, but sometimes you just need a feature like this to remind you of the classic 90s cinema we all loved.
