The Changeover DVD Review

07:30:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Based on the best-selling book by Margaret Mahy, The Changeover is a new teen film that brings New Zealand to the screen in a beautiful way with some great acting for a young audience to fall in love with. In fact, viewers of all ages may just love it.

Starring Timothy Spall, Benji Purchase and a brilliant debut by Erana James, the film follows teenager Laura Chant and her brother, as they both discover that they hold the key to some incredible powers. As the pair learn how to control and live with them, Laura meets a new boy who becomes interested in her, but she is scared to let in due to the powers she holds.

There is a sense of originality within The Changeover compared to over teenage films, as it leaves behind some of the normal traits to make the book to film change more dynamic. Full of more personal moments – ones in which teens will connect with – the story is a great balance of mystery and a little bit of madness. It has the allure of Twilight, mixed in with the energy of The Hunger Games.

However, there is also the element of it being like the other films that have been before. Mostly the ones that people have forgotten and as audiences start to shun these films, after years of them, it is hard for this one to really point out how it is going to make or ensure it leaves its mark. Yet, I am sure that younger audiences who see it will enable it to do so.

There so, I am giving it…
