Good Afternoon Lovelies,

The BFI has made this Friday super exciting, as they have announced the Closing Night Gala film for the 62nd BFI London Film Festival! And it features the story of two very familiar faces, played by two superb actors!

Starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, the World Premiere of Stan & Ollie, will take place on the 21st October at the Cineworld venue in Leicester Square, with both stars in attendance. Also walking the red carpet on the night will be director Jon S. Baird, BAFTA Award-winning writer Jeff Pope, producer Faye Ward and fellow cast members. Whilst around the country we will be treated to preview screenings as well.

Telling the true story of one of the best comedy double acts of all time, Laurel and Hardy, Coogan and Reilly will bring the tale of their farewell tour around the UK and Ireland to life. Facing hectic schedules, the pair keeps the laughs coming due to the support from their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda), who could rival the pair as a double act on their own. The film also captures the heart of the pairs relationship and their love of performing and each other, along with their admiration for their fans.

Speaking about the news, BFI London Film Festival Artistic Director, Tricia Tuttle said, “We’re delighted to be closing the BFI London Film Festival with this beautiful tribute to cinema’s early comedy odd couple, Laurel & Hardy. A truly funny and touching story about a tender life-long friendship, Jon Baird’s film is also a must for movie fans, exploring the twilight years of two mega-watt performers who had a meteoric rise to fame.  These two prove that true comic timing is eternal, and it’s a perfect end to the Festival as the BFI looks ahead to our major UK-wide Comedy Genius season this Autumn, as well as a month-long Laurel & Hardy season at BFI Southbank in January.”

Whilst, Stan & Ollie Director, Jon S. Baird stated, “I’m really proud to be able to give the film its World Premiere in London; a city that’s so dear to myself and I know was to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.  Stan & Ollie, at its heart, is a love story between old friends, who just happen to be two of the most iconic comedic characters in Hollywood’s history.  I’m really excited to have the Closing Night film and to bring the movie to a Festival audience.”

The film is due to be released in the UK on the 11th January next year lovelies, but you can catch it early at the festival, which starts on the 10th October until Sunday 21st October, with the full Festival programme due to be announced on the 30th August lovelies!

Who else is ready to catch Stan & Ollie? I can’t wait to see what the cast brings to life in what looks to be an epic story!
