Gringo DVD Review

08:30:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Not many people went to see the film Gringo when it was first released. With not much promotion but an all-star cast, the film was overshadowed by huge blockbusters and award winners. Now though as it makes its way onto DVD, audiences are finally getting their chance to see it.

Starring Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton and David Oyelowo, the film captures Oyelowo’s businessman Harold facing a series of unfortunate matters, after his two bosses (Theron and Edgerton) send him on a business trip to Mexico.

Comedy and drama often go hand in hand, but this film manages to present a fun new idea, whilst mixing in classic tropes. It is easy to see how they bond together with the likes of The Hangover and even Breaking Bad for their creativity. Something which is only heightened by those in the feature.

With performances shining a light on the talent within the film, the feature has everything about it to make it a success. Theron brings her comedic gritty talents, Oyelowo brings his powerful pace and performance skills and Edgerton steals the screen every chance he gets.

However, it isn’t all fun and games. Some members of the cast don’t get their moment enough and the way in which they bond isn’t as effective when all together. The three leads are the powerhouses here, yet it would have been better if everyone was one.

And as for the plot, with the similarities to the films mentioned above shining through, it does become a little predictable at times. Something which does end up getting on your nerves after a while. Yet, this doesn’t stop the film from being watchable.

With a great cast, fun script and a fresh outlook on some elements of the genre, Gringo is an easy viewing choice if you are stuck with what to pick.

There so, I am giving it...

3 Stars
