Irma Vep DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Back in the 1980s, Oliver Assayas made his sixth feature one that nobody would forget! Starring Maggie Cheung, Irma Vep is a playful take on an actress who finds her life on set turning into reality due to artistic differences and personal views.

With long shots and close up encounters with the star, Assayas has made a feature that will stand the test of time. Made in less than a month, nothing feels or looks like it has been rushed. It all seems like a piece that has taken years to make because of the careful details within it.

As the main in the film, Cheung used this cult hit to catapult her career and rightly so with a performance that is so interesting to watch. You never quite know what her character is going to do next and her way of embodying it is powerful enough to hook in the audience throughout.

The film is a great classic that will make you want to revisit all of Assayas’ features and more. Always making films that get you thinking, this is a clever way of getting an inside look at the industry with superb talent starring in it too.

There so, I am giving it…

4 Stars
