La Chinoise DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

In the 1960s, Jean-Luc Godard was commanding the cinema screens with his transformative feature films. Touching on subjects that affected the world, his 1967 feature, La Chinoise, tells the story of the left-wing student organisations on university campuses across France and Europe.

Using his own home to capture the drama, the film tells the reactions students were having to huge matters including the Vietnam conflict, American imperialism and more in a gripping and raw manner. Everything seems very much like a classic British kitchen sink piece. As if you know that the film is going to have a dark turn in it, whilst addressing key issues.

Politics is a very important issue at the moment and the film still holds the power to be relevant to modern audiences. If you take the reactions and the way in which Godard has captured scenes, there are many comparisons that could be made to the way people are reacting to issues affecting the world today.

It is a film that feels like it is a clever prediction to the future and what is to come, whilst telling the story of what was really happening to people. All of which that is done in a very fresh manner.

There so, I am giving the film…

4 Stars
