Starring Ethan Hawke in his latest action adventure, 24 Hours To Live, calls upon the regular action film tropes of modern cinema to bring to life its story on the small screen. Out today on DVD and digitally, this film uses influences from Taken and The Commuter to bring us stuntman Brian Smrz’s second feature.

Hawke plays Travis Conrad, an ex-elite soldier, who finds himself asking for the help of his friends to help him uncover the truth around the deaths of his son and daughter. Unable to do it on his own, due to emotional connects, he finds himself working with a man named Frank to bring down those who have betrayed him.

Let’s start this review by stating that there isn’t much going for the story that hasn’t already been done before. A man who is going through something connected to his family seems to be the only way in which many action films are trying to go. However, with the talents of Hawke’s it really doesn’t have to be that way.

Hawke’s works tremendously hard at trying to make the story go further than it is, but even his amazing work can’t save what has happened to the plot and the characters in it. It feels like the scriptwriters have just tried to make something that they know people will see, but not given it any depth.
