Jigsaw DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

It was nearly 10 years ago since the last Saw film reached are cinema screens. After years of sequels and gore, the franchise closed its doors up until 2017, when the world of Jigsaw returned to terrorise us once more.

Now it is coming into our homes as the latest film in the franchise makes its way to DVD, Blu-ray and digital download for the first time. Out in time to reclaim its Halloween hotspot last year, the horror is now here to make our winters even darker than before, as the dead rise again.

Years after the death (or possible death shall we say) of serial killer John Kramer, played by Tobin Bell, the film starts with police discovering a number of corpses branding the killers infamous trademark. As detectives try to find out what is happening, a group of troubled people are faced with Jigsaw’s deadly games, as they try to escape an evil barn.

As soon as Bell’s voice is heard again, you are instantly placed back in the early moments of the franchise. The gore hasn’t died down, the characters are just as gruesome and the terror that they face has only been amped up to disgust us even more. Each character is faced with something that no one world ever want to be and actors Matt Passmore, Cle Bennett and Callum Keith Rennie, all play it out brilliantly.

However, the franchise lacks what it last did. No one asked for more of the films and whilst sometimes getting more can work in the audiences favour, Jigsaw fails to resurrect the killer from the shadows that the last few films placed him in.

People are no longer seeking horror films such as these but thrilling and mentally terrifying films. This just uses the ultimate of blood and tissue to try and get audiences to let it back into the fold. Unfortunate it doesn’t succeed.

There so, I am giving it…
