Jean-Luc Godard + Jean-Pierre Gorin: Five Films (1968-1971) DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Jean-Luc Godard is a director known for pushing the boat out with his feature films. Shocking scripts and incredible acting, made those within his films remember able, which is why Arrow Films have selected five of his best pieces to star alongside one another in a new box set series.

Full to the brim with politics, the films including Wind for the East, Struggles in Italy and A Film Like Any Other, showed the struggles the world was facing and the way in which the people were dealing with them. Each character has a sense that they have been made with someone in mind. Someone approachable and real.

Weapons, conflicts of class and the struggles women face are all key themes with the films, giving the sense that these films have been made to meet the audiences for years to come. No one could deny that what is being shown wouldn’t affect a modern audience member and the same was probably said back when the films were all first made.

It is a clever skill for the director and his team to undertake. It is a clever skill for his actors to digest and project in fact. The whole team comes together in each film to bring a scary look at a politically charged world that isn’t sure what to do and it is this that makes you sit up and take notice.

Easy to fall into and easy to take notice of, the films all run with a theme of true power politics and they know exactly how to get a reaction. This is why I am giving the boxset…
