Poldark Series 3 DVD Review

09:30:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

For the past few Sunday nights, I have been feeling a little bit lonely and a little bit relieved. Instead of taking up its normal winter night’s lot, Poldark returned for its third season in the middle of the summer (suppose to be but you know England), to give us even more Ross and Demelza, plus many mores drama.

In the third season of the show tensions were high. From the rival between George and Ross, which led to the sad death of a much loved character to the forbidden relationships that still tempted trouble and fate to survive, the shows third season was definitely one that got people talking. Especially me and my friend Amy, as we often text throughout episodes to share out thoughts on this seasons themes.

The third season brought with it the main theme of trouble. Ross and Demelza were both tempted by others, leading to big trouble by the end of the series, as it ended on a cliffhanger to how their marriage would survive. Elizabeth and George, whose marriage I am still not sure about, our two characters who our out to cause problems.

George is obviously one of the most hated figures on TV and he decides to bring with him even more villains this season. Reverend Whitworth is a despicable character, who has no respect for anyone around him. All of which leading to him deciding to marry Elizabeth’s cousin and newcomer to the show, Morwenna Chenowyth, who longs to be with fellow newcomer Drake, Demelza’s brother, causing harm to everyone involved.

Whilst Aidan Turner brings back to life the brooding figure successfully, the show no longer needs him to survive. The newcomers, played by Harry Richardson, Ellise Chappell and Christian Brassington bring all the action for this season. Controversy follows them everywhere and around the country there was outrage at a certain scene, which was heart breaking to watch as a viewer.

Drake and Morwenna had a relationship that definitely needs to be explored further in the future. It is a storyline that really doesn’t need dragging to work. The pair are willing to fight for each other and the writers have cleverly done this to show that forbidden love always win. Something that could foreshadow the relationship between Ross and Demelza after they continued to test each other within their marriage.

For a twosome they can be very annoying at not respecting each other and their marriage at times. I know that it is a TV show, but I can’t tell you how many times I nearly shouted at the TV because of their actions.

In fact, by the end of each episode I longed for more scenes of Dwight and Caroline’s relationship because they seemed to be the only two characters who knew what was going on in their lives and gave a little bit of relief to audience members. They definitely should have had more airtime that is all I’m saying.

The third season was a relationship focused one. Whilst there was heartache for Drake, Morwenna, Ross and Demelza, there was also the opportunity for the writers of the show to take things further between them all into series four. How it all ends up though we will have to wait and see.

There so, I am giving Poldark a gentle…

4 Stars
