The Neon Demon DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

I have had the pleasure of speaking to director Nicolas Winding Refn and I can’t tell you how much of a cinematic genius that man is. He knows how to make a character say so much and make such an impact, without them actually saying much (Drive for example). This has led to me being very excited to see his new film, The Neon Demon which is out today on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Starring Elle Fanning and Jena Malone, the film shows the dark side of the world of beauty and modelling, turning cannibalistic and thrilling with every scene as the film continues. It is an independent film that is nothing like the work Winding Refn has done before. And it only further shows his artistic talents.

The plot changes almost in every scene. When you think you have nailed what the modelling world is going to throw at Fanning’s Jesse, it changes again and she transforms into a different image. One that shows the many faces, images and sides that a model is perceived to be like by the industry and the media.

Fanning is a great casting as the lead character because her innocent film catalogue is tainted with her role in this to show that she has a lot of strengths and the ability to do many other roles within her career.  Malone continues to also show her strengths on screen and highlights how much of a powerful force she is becoming in the acting world.

The men in the film are painted in a dark and horrific way that causes a lot of moments in which the viewer may want to look away, but Winding Refn has made a film that causes you to be unable to look away from the screen.

His work is as strong as it has always been and if not a lot more artistic. It is obvious he had a message to share with this film. He has shared it and done it well.

This is why I am giving him...
