MAPPLETHORPE: LOOK AT THE PICTURES DVD REVIEW...

20:05:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

If like me you have read Patti Smith’s book Just Kids than you know all about Robert Mapplethorpe and the beauty of his character. From Smith’s words and images he seems like a soft man who cared about those around him. He is the only figure in fact who has made me cry when a reading book.

Taking audiences on a journey behind the scenes of not only his life but the images and the pictures he created, the film, Mapplethorpe Look At The Pictures, is a visual album into his life and it is beautifully explored. As a fan of the artist, there is something sweet and gentle about seeing his work put out there.

Even though they are nudes and often very sexual the images show the beauty of life. They show a man who did not give up on life and made it his own. He never showed anyone anything that he didn’t want them to see and this film shows exactly that.

It would have been nice to have even more voices involved in the film, but when you have a powerful set of voices and images mixed together it doesn’t deter away from the action on screen much.

There so I am giving it…
