The Cat O’ Nine Tails DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Back in the 1970s, horror films were just getting started. Bringing to life some of the biggest cinematic threats of all time, the directors were not afraid to push the boundaries with audiences and their stories. One director doing this was Dario Argento with his 1971 classic, The Cat O’ Nine Tails.

Out for the first time on Blu-ray today, as well as DVD, audiences are getting to experience the magic of Argento’s directory and leading man Karl Malden’s talents in this feature about a man who gets sucked into a murderous story.

Following Malden’s Franco, the film captures him as a blind puzzle-maker, who hears the attempted blackmail of one of his co-workers. Joining forces with reporter Carlo Giordani (played by James Franciscus), the pair turn into amateur sleuths to try and bring down the evil figures who have taken over their business and kidnapped Franco’s young niece.

Made in a short amount of time, the film is a thrilling piece of cinematic history that brings a pair of new detectives to life. In a world where we are becoming all too familiar with those who have been reinterpreted many times, it is nice to get a new pair. Ones that are so well played by Franciscus and Malden.

Argento has made a film that will be loved by all that saw it before and those that are new but interested in the thriller genre. It is an original feature that deserves more time to be shared.

There so, I am giving the film…

4 Stars
