The Dark Tower DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Stephen King has been having a very good 2017. With a number of his books being transformed onto the big screen, each one has been bringing something new to the world of cinema and online streaming. However, the retelling of his series of books, The Dark Tower, lacks where overs succeed.

Starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba, the film takes on the series of eight books, to capture the story of Roland Deschain (Elba), the last Gunslinger, who is a deadly battle with Walter O’Dim (McConaughey), who is referred to as the Man in Black. To stop him taking over The Dark Tower, Roland must fight him with everything he has.

Elba and McConaughey are two men who definitely know how to make a scene work, but with the lack of details and characteristics, they are unable to do so. With eight books compressed into one film, there is too much involved that makes the plot of the film messy and there so it fails.

The books are full of details that make them a thing of beauty, but this film doesn’t capture them in the same way. It relies on the characters, but what it actually gets is a story with lots of people walking around clueless. A feeling that also matches moments in the audience’s mind. None of this is down to the actors I will admit though.

There so I am giving the film…
