Monster Island DVD Review

07:30:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Halloween is just round the corner and finally we can get all of those classic horror films out to play! Many of which are not suitable for children, until now, as Monster Island has been released today for all to enjoy during this ghoulish season.

Following teenager Lucas, who lives with his dad, the film begins as any normal teen film does. It shows an angst figure, who can’t deal with the things his body is doing or wants to do anymore. Deciding to stop his medication, Lucas finds that the reason he was taking it was to stop, the true monster that he is from coming out. Heading to Monster Island to find out the truth about himself, Lucas finds that what he thought was real, very much isn’t.

Unlike Disney or DreamWorks features, this film is an independent one with a heart. Lucas is a character young people will understand, but also laugh at as he comes to terms with the monster life that takes place on the island. For adults, it is more about watching the joy come to young peoples faces from it.

Sadly, there is a downside to the film. The ideas and the tropes within it have been done before. But for a Halloween treat for kids, it isn’t all bad and they will enjoy seeing this different feature film from the norm.

There so, I am giving the film…

3 Stars
