Churchill DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

In recent months, the interest in Winston Churchill on screen has grown a lot. From The Crown’s heart-wrenching portrayal to the upcoming Gary Oldman version of one of the most famous war figures, the world wants to know more about one of the most powerful people in British history.

Taking on the task in Churchill is Brian Cox, who portrays the later years of the second world war as Churchill waits for the D-Day events to take place. Something he believed would be the worst decision in war history.

Cox completely transforms himself to become the political figure, in such a way that he has changed everything audience may have thought they knew about him. He has obviously put in a lot of preparation to make Jonathan Teplitzky’s version of a man that many saw as the reason England won the war.

With mental health and physical health issues becoming a key element in this feature, the film is a personal look at the external and internal war of one person. There are no straightforward ways of making Churchill in this film in fact, as the characters try to come to terms with everything happening on their own.

The film is a complex feature that will make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Churchill. He is obviously a man with many sides and Cox’s portrayal of him is very strong. However, the film does go a little wild at times and it seems to be pulling on strings, as it tries to bring back heart whilst mixing in thrills that just don’t work.

There so I am giving the film…
