Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Italian cinema is making a comeback thanks to Cultfilms, as they continue to release classics on to DVD and Blu-ray for the first time ever! Today, the company have released Sophia Loren’s classic feature, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and if you haven’t seen it then you really must!

Awarded the Best Foreign Feature Oscar in 1964, the film stars Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, in three very different scenarios. The first being a woman, who is taken in by a couple who keep her pregnant to stop her going to prison. The second a writer who is having an affair with a woman who dreams of them running away together until a car crash happens and finally a call girl who turns the head of a man preparing to join the priesthood.

Starring one of the most famous stripteases of all time, Loren oozes sex appeal throughout. However, this isn’t the stand out reason to enjoy this film. The clever manipulation of the three scenarios paves the way for a Sliding Doors kind of moment, which highlights the what if’s, the bizarre and the downright maddening moments from the characters within it.

Director De Sica has used his actor’s abilities and love of cinema to give them a script and story that highlights all their talents in one. Cinema was definitely being tested to change in Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, because of this in fact.

There so I am giving the film…

4 Stars
