Starring Sophia Loren, the film tells the story of Filumena, a prostitute who catches the eye of Marcello, a businessman who falls for her. Together the pair embark on a romance, mixing business with pleasure, as he makes her the manager of his pastry shop. However, things change when Marcello introduces her to his new mistress.

The film, which is based on a best-selling play, is a melodramatic foreign feature that highlights the skills of Loren well. Her lovable turned villainous character, allow for her to show the change in how she presents a feeling or emotion.

Oscar-nominated in 1964 for best film, it is easy to see why so many fell under its charm. With the gorgeous Italian streets capturing the heart of the city to the romance turned hatred filled plot, it has everything to hook an audience member in.
