Versailles Series Two DVD Review

08:00:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Versailles was a show that took over our TV screens last year for many reasons. Full of scandal, sex and royal stories, the show did not lack action by any means. There so it was rescheduled for a second season, which has been released on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally as of today.

Continuing on from where the last season left off, the show sees France under the rule of Louis XIV in 1667. Deciding to move the royal court from Paris to Versailles, the king finds his nobles turn against him, causing riots and rebellion throughout. All of which he is all too happy to join in with, as he takes on his enemy Guillaume d’Orange.

Created with the sense that every detail matters, the show sees the classic royal story take a different turn as, it goes into the world of revenge. There are of course the raunchy moments that were in the first season, but this series is all about the bitterness found hidden within the royal family.

It is over the top dramatic, especially when the series searches for the lost heir, who was kidnapped at the end of the previous series, but it works. The acting is superb at times, only let down by moments that lack the intrigue the last series gave, making for enjoyable watching throughout. Even if there are many murky moments.

Moments that are made more powerful with the music presented in them. There is no episode which doesn’t have its charm added to it, as the operatic sounds stand out. Overall, the show is a royal treat, full of everything that the world of TV has been missing since The Tudors ended.

This is why I am giving it…
