My Life As A Dog DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

As many of you know I am a huge fan of Arrow Films and the way in which they bring back to life a number of cult classics. Today, they are releasing the classic My Life As A Dog on DVD and so I sat down for the first time to watch it.

The Academy Award nominated film portrays Reidar Jönsson’s autobiographical novel on to the big screen. Telling the story of Ingemar and his uncle, who he is sent to live with, the film shows the young child’s efforts of escape from his home and the ill-mother he lives with.

An adventure story that went on to make a world famous director out of Lasse Hallström, the film is a deep story told from a young person’s point of view. You can’t imagine what the child is going through and the director doesn’t hide from sharing it with audiences. The story is heartbreaking, adventurous and bittersweet all at once because of this.

30 years after the film was first released it still manages to hook audiences in. There is a certain charm about it that causes audiences of all ages to think back to their childhoods and the way in which they grew up. It is a thought provoking piece that will stay with you for a long time.

There so I am giving the film...
