Snowden DVD Review

08:00:00

Good Morning Lovelies,

Back in October last year, the BFI Film Festival invited Snowden to come and share its glory on screen. Now as the film comes out on DVD, I have finally sat down to watch the feature and I wanted to share my thoughts.

Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zachary Quinton and Shailene Woodley, the film tells the story of Edward Snowden, the man responsible for the biggest security breach in recent US history. Gordon-Levitt takes on the famous figure and gives a career changing performance in the role.

Going back to the start, the film shows every moment of Snowden’s story and shows you what made him want to become one of the biggest whistleblowers of all time. For audience members who are not aware of Snowden’s story, there is something about the film that is eerie and hard-hitting as you see the film’s adaptation of the truth.

Working together to provide it, the cast is the key success to this film. Gordon-Levitt, Woodley and Quinton make a dream team of a cast and they each play their parts with anger, strength and passion that makes it seem like the story is really theirs and not the character’s they are playing.

There is however an element of the truth being hidden a little bit too though. It appears director Oliver Stone is a little bit afraid to tell the story to its full strength. At times the seems to be influenced by the government and what they will allow to be told to much. If you are hoping for everything, and I mean everything, then sadly Stone isn’t giving it.

But he is giving you a cast and a great story that whilst not full is one that is continuously enjoyable and intriguing. It is a film that you can learn from and take knowledge away from. Especially the fact that Gordon-Levitt needs to play more of these roles.

There so I am giving the film…

4 Stars
