The 9th Life of Louis Drax DVD Review

Good Morning Lovelies,

Many children grow up being clumsy. Believe me, I was one of them. But from the moment the film, The 9th Life of Louis Drax, begins you find that Louis Drax’s mishaps are a bit different. Louis is, in fact, a very unfortunate child who survives some horrible accidents.

Directed by Alexandre Aja and starring Jamie Dornan, Aaron Paul and Sarah Gadon, the film follows the young child, from his point of view, as a serious accident leaves him in a coma. Seeing and hearing what he has witnessed or dreamed of, the film mixes with the world of Dornan’s doctor who believes he can mentally connect with Louis to find out what really happened to him.

From the moment the film begins and we learn about Louis’ father, played by Paul, there is a sense that we know what is going on. However, the dark undertones change and the mother figure changes. Gadon gives a lot of strength to the mother character at different times.

Altogether the characters recreate the book that the film is based on well. However, there are a few moments where you are not quite sure what is going on. Even though they are beautiful moments, the flickering between the dream worlds and the sea settings, make it hard to understand what is happening and it can become confusing for the viewer to track every moment.

There so I am giving the film...
