A few weeks ago I sat down to watch Southside With You and I loved every minute of it. From the laid back style of the film to the honest and intimate look at Barack and Michelle Obama, the film was like looking into the home of the most famous couple in the world.

Telling the story of their first date, the film follows a young Michelle and Barack Obama, as they spend the day together learning about each other and the way in which they view America. There are a number of moments where you wonder if the film could get cheesy, but the filmmaker makes sure you are just getting what hopefully happened.


Both actors in the leading roles make you think they are the real people. I haven’t seen an actor match Barack Obama so well and the way he portrays the character makes you love him even more as an actor. As does the actresses playing Michelle.

They have a chemistry and a way about presenting themselves to the audience that makes them stand out and be strong next to one another and on screen. I hope that they are placed on screen again in roles such as these because they know how to work an audience's heart strings.
