The Burning and Co DVD Reviews

Good Morning Lovelies,

It is nearing Halloween and in a few short days, we will be preparing for all the ghouls and ghosts to reappear. So I thought it would be a good time to share with you all a roundup of the top films to catch this year, as they are released.

Starting with The Burning...

Fresh on DVD and Blu-ray, the classic film from the 80s is one of the strongest films to survive the video nasty genre. It automatically puts you at unease and you can see the influences from classics such as Nightmare on Elm Street within the film.

There is gore galore in this film, so if you are a horror fan who loves this element, then you will not be disappointed when it comes to this one. It will make you feel sorry for Cropsy, a caretaker who suffers at the hands of a prank and then be shocked by his acts of revenge.

This is why I am giving the film...

4 Stars

Next up was The Neighbour...

After speaking to the stars and the creator of the film it was time I sat down and watched the film. Telling the story of an army veteran John and his wife Rosie, the film shows them trying to raise enough money to get to live out their dream of moving to Mexico.

However, in all horror films, the dreams are not always able to go ahead, as the characters are faced with and the blood and gore elements rise in the thriller stakes. It has many qualities that fans of horror films will recognise and there will be a familiar feeling with this film.

That is why I am giving it...

And finally, I sat down and watched 52 Pickup...

Directed by John Frankenheimer, the film follows Roy a businessman who soon has his life turned upside down when his relationship with his mistress is threatened to be exposed. The film makes no characters really likable and that is what allows tension and thrills to be added to it.

You don’t hope for any outcomes for the characters (not wishing them dead), as they all have qualities about them that make them so unforgiving. It is a clever element of telling the story and making it stand out as a horror.

There so I am giving it...

4 Stars
