GOING BERSERK AND MORE SIMPLY MEDIA DVD REVIEWS...

Good Morning Lovelies,

A few weeks ago I was told about a bunch of classic films that were coming out thanks to Simply Media and I jumped at the chance to review them lovelies. With legends including Bing Crosby, Harrison Ford and James Caan in them they are instant winners.

Starting with Going Berserk…

Starring John Candy, the film is a comedy full of life, as he plays a chauffeur who meets a ton of interesting people on his way to marrying the congressman’s daughter. These characters are played by huge stars and ones the comedy world still loves today.

With Candy and others involved the film is a great and fun adventure from start to finish. The script is polished and the comedy is what so many films now rely on today to make themselves a success. The modern filmmakers have used it a lot to gain momentum in their own films.

And there so I am giving it…

Next up was Here Comes the Waves…

This classic comedy shows two sisters as they come together during WWII and find love with a singer who they meet along the way in their journeys. It is a girl power story mixed with war and romance – a perfect combination.

There is a power house of comedy but also light-hearted moments that make them the great film that so many noticed when it first came out (the Academy) and that is what makes it a real winner. Everything is different about it than the norm.

Which is why I am giving it…

5 Stars

This film was followed up by Hired Wife…

A film that would normally and from the synopsis of it seem like a crazy piece to watch and enjoy, this film is a winner in sharing with audiences the power women have on screen. Taking matters into her own hand, the film is a power player.

With a great cast and a great team the film is a successful take on how a woman can dominate the screen and make the men on screen take notice. It is a true portrayal of the powerful woman in many homes and how they make the world turn.

There so I am giving it…

4 Stars

After this I watched Joe Butterfly…

A post-war comedy film with a lot of spice is what you will find when you watch this. It is a bit like ‘The Big Short’ mixed in with a war filled world. The journalist characters are stand out figures and the people who play them make sure they are portrayed well.

The mix of the characters also adds a different look at how different comedy figures and characters can work so well together. They are a look into the future and how the different characters we see today in the comedy world were created.

There so I am giving the film…

4 Stars

With a successful watch in Joe Butterfly, the next film on my list was Journey to Shiloh…

Probably one of the lesser known films of Harrison Ford, this one show him take on the western genre as he and seven others go across the country to try and join the army during the American Civil War. But it doesn’t go to plan.

Whoever hired Ford for this film obviously knew the talent he was going to become. He uses sly comedy to make a powerful performance that should be discussed more on his CV and when looking into his background. As should it for the other men in the film.

And that is why I am giving the film…

4 Stars

Followed by The Lady Gambles…

Completely different to the other films that I watched during this time, this film noir piece shares an incredible set of talent in it including Tony Curtis. Alongside the two other leads, Curtis and those on screen share an enjoyable but it isn’t a match for what he has shown before.

With as much experience and knowledge on Curtis as a comedian the film could have been so much more – especially in the comedy stakes – but the film becomes sloppy with its take on how dark life can get. But not doing them in a serious way.

And there so it isn’t an enjoyment leading to this rating…

3 Stars

Finally I watched The Lady Takes a Flyer…

Another film that was completely different was this one. And this is why I ended with it when watching them all. After lots of comedy this film had funny moments, but they were outweighed by the thrilling moments that were seen on screen.

Following a man named Mike; the film is set after the war and sees him falling for Maggie. However like many films their love is tested. This predictable story telling makes for hard watching as a modern audience member, so it is best to forget anything you have seen recently and remember that this is where it may have all started.

And there so when you do this, you find yourself watching a true winner that deserves this…
