Hey Lovelies, 

This summer was full of action and high powered films, but the biggest one of them all was ‘Mad Max Fury Road’ which had everyone talking about it for months. Unfortunately with so much going on I missed it when it first came out, but over the weekend I settled in and watched it, after being kindly sent a copy before its release. 

Performance is key to this film. Everything within it rides on the characters and their artistically charged roles within the film. It feels at times as though you are witnessing a ballet. A beautiful ballet that has been pieced together with car chases, madness and feminism. 

To begin with the plot seems to be a bit confusing, as it throws you into the realms of the character and the action that follows them throughout. However once the film progresses, it becomes clear what the plot is going to be and it becomes one of the strongest action films of recent times. It breaks all of the boundaries in which had previously been set and brings to life a fresh look at such an iconic figure. 

Hardy takes on this role very well in fact. While he is of course the face of the film, his moments are kept small but brilliant. However he is over shone at times and rightly so by the females within the film. Each one in fact providing enough talent to lead the film themselves. Especially Charlize Theron, who brings to life the character of Fursiosa in such a powerful way that you find yourself watching her and following her story more so in the film then that of Max. 

This could be because of the past films in which we left Max in though, which is key viewing before going into watch this film lovelies. Without the knowledge of them, this high speed chase could become confusing and a little bit insane at times to watch, because the whole film is a fast paced journey to the world in which he left behind. Hardy knows this and you can see it in his performance. He gives the character a depth in which at times beats Gibson’s performances in the previous ones. 

Really though the most stand out point within the film isn’t just the performances, but also the way in which the plot has been treated, because it has allowed for a female voice to be spoken out loudly in the world of action. The characters of the Wives and their story is the true heart of this film and it is so powerful that you seek so much from them when viewing. They bring a new voice to the modern film era and a strong encouraging one at that. 

It is in fact the main reason to watch this film. If you are an action fan, then of course this will appeal to you, but don’t be afraid to spread the message about the feminism and empowering women within the film as well, because it really makes for great viewing. Director George Miller has made sure to give the females in his film the chance to truly shine and show what they want to get across and he has made film magic by doing so. 

Overall, while the film can be confusing, it is a must watch for all audiences, as the action and messages within it, stay with viewers for a long time afterwards, as it leaves you thinking about the madness in which you have witnessed and the reasons behind it. The characters have been given a modern makeover that over action heroes and directors need to take on board.
