INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3 REVIEW...

20:20:00

Hey Lovelies,

As many of you know I am a huge horror film fan, and I am a huge fangirl for the ‘Insidious’ franchise. However when it was released earlier this year, I sadly missed out on the chance to see, ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’ until now. I spent the weekend sitting down and this is what I thought about it.

Taking audiences right back to the start, the film follows a story in which we have seen been mentioned before in the previous films, but in a lot more depth, as the story of the first people affected by the famous poltergeist that has been ruining the family’s life in the previous films is revealed. While the acting isn’t as strong in this one, the film definitely manages to bring to life the spooks again.

Although it is nothing like the scare mongering pieces in the previous films, that had stomachs dropping, audiences screaming and terrifying moments within it, the film presents horrific moments that reflect the time within the film and the time in which horror films became magical. The 70s feel is definitely brought back to live and the directors twists and turns with it, make it very important to the films dynamic.

Going back to the acting though and the stand out performance in this film is Dermot Mulroney, as the father figure, who is trying to save his daughter. Although he is at times overbearing and a little bit too much for audiences, he gives them the chance to see a real father being tormented by the horrors in which she is going through. It makes you feel for the young family and the crimes and moments in which they are going through.

His performance in fact makes this film relevant to the moments in which we have seen in the previous two films. It sets into motion that even though these films are obviously created to scare audiences, there is the element to them that it is a family dynamic. Of course many films in the horror world do this, but the way in which the mother and fathers within them are all reacting the same way, is spooky within itself, because it makes the audience feel as though the poltergeist in which is tormenting them will only go for families, in which many families will probably be watching the films together. A clever element from the director!

It provides an extra layer to an already twisted story and therefore as an audience member, there is a delight in seeing where this story or more importantly the story of the horror in which the families have all been through came from. And the characters in which have continued to be tormented by it.

This is why I am giving the film…
