#FILMFRIDAY! THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG EXTENDED EDITION DVD REVIEW...

Hello Lovelies,
I have just beaten one of the biggest spiders ever in a little war in my living room! They are one of the only animals I don’t like and the weird thing is I have held a Tarantula and it didn’t bother me. I actually liked them; it is just the smaller ones. This one was a trouble maker!
Much like Smaug in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, however I don’t mind this creature! He can stay after watching ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ Extended Edition and all its special features.
For me I felt the same way as I did when I watched it the first time, so I have posted the review I posted when I first saw it below, to match the release. However I wanted to review the special features, that you have all seen a little sneak peek of this week. So let’s start…
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition Special Features:
When I first heard that there was over five hours of special features on this disc, I wondered how I was going to watch them all, but I am happy to tell you all that once you start you just can’t stop watching them.
I lost a whole afternoon in the wonders of Jackson’s world, and considering I am not the biggest Hobbit fan, it made me appreciate the world he had created a lot more. Especially the effects used when making Smaug! Benedict Cumberbatch is truly a genius after watching all of the special features at making the famous villain. He is definitely someone who should have an award, because his hard work when making the faces and actions for the dragon are a work of art.
Much like the exclusive looks into the setting. I have heard a lot about The Shire in New Zealand, as my friend wants to get married there. But I didn’t realise just how beautiful that part of the world is until watching these special features. The delicate ways they show them building around it and making little pieces of architect are just perfect to the eye. They make you want to transform your garden and make a world that seems exclusive to everyone else.
As for the other features, the other one you should definitely watch is the music feature as it adds that little charm to the film and will make you notice the little pieces of music that you miss out on when you are not listening to them probably. Make sure you watch this and then the film to notice them even more.
If there is one that you might want to avoid or miss out, then I would suggest leaving out the credit feature as it doesn’t show you anything new or different then what you have seen in the film, so you could save a little time here. But if you are a true fan then you will definitely want to watch all of the special features.
Therefore I am going to give the special features in extended edition…

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Review…
So I am not a big fan of the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit franchises but I did enjoy the sequel to the original film. With Martin Freeman taking the lead again, Jackson has managed to make an incredible film based on a ‘barrel of laughs’.
The first 45 minutes of the film, were very slow as the plot seemed to dwindle on the previous film a little too much. However when the Dwarves, came face to face with man eating spiders, imprisonment and a white water rafting session in barrels in an attempt to escape the evil Orcs, it got very interesting and gripped me.
A lot of CGI is present in the film of course, but during the barrel scenes, that I believe will win over any audience it managed to capture all the elements of the children’s book that it is based on. As an audience you are also compelled into seeing the characters that never have any fun, take on a different approach of survival.
While talking about CGI, it is hard to believe that the whole setting in which it is based in isn’t fake, however that there is a place like that in New Zealand, makes it even more magical. The green beautiful world of the Shire is something that someone could only make up in a novel and that’s why it is such an attraction to audiences. However it is mainly all about how the characters live in the worlds surrounding them.
The return of Orlando Bloom and the introduction of Evangeline Lilly added a whole new feel to the film as it added more depth to the whole plot and made me a little more intrigued to watch them develop through the cause of the film, especially Lilly as she is the only female we see and she seems to be taking the Katniss style that many films are taking very seriously.
Of course we get to the characters fans love, played by actors we love and the barrel scene is the one that will make you fall in love with them all over again. It was something that many people did not expect to see Jackson do, but I am hoping that he carries on this idea and style in the final film.
As for the dragon itself, Smaug, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, managed to present everything about Del Toro’s touch on the film. He reminded me of the Pan in ‘Pans Labyrinth’ and even his voice seemed to touch on that tone a little bit to. He is an interesting choice of Villain and the way in which his character was the main ending meant that next year, the hype for the film is about to get ten times for crazier.
For a person who isn’t a fan of the franchise, like me, I would definitely say give this film a chance and for fans of the this one is a whole lot better than the first one. It has everything in it that will make you want to see it again and again. But just beware of the Smaug!
Overall I am giving the film…
